Build It! in Ipswich

Experience a different kind of holiday adventures at the city of Ipswich. The quaint town is not only famous for its beautiful scenery and rich culture but also for its significant historical sites such as the Ipswich Railway Workshop. This season the Best Western Ipswich Heritage Motor Inn invites everyone to get their creative juices flow as the Ipswich Railway Workshop presents Build It!

The Ipswich Railway Workshops first opened its doors in 1865 and has since been a workplace for more than 10,000 skilled tradesmen that took part in building and maintaining trains, carriages, wagons including different machineries that are made and used to operate the railways in Queensland. Step inside and explore the many different trades used onsite. You’ll discover the inner workings and craftsmanship that  goes on at the Railway’s Paint Shop, Wagon & Carriage Shop, Steam Shop, Trimmer Shop, Tarpaulin Shop, Supply & Wheel Shop, Bogie Shop, Blacksmiths Shop and Boiler Shop.

This coming 18 June 2011 - 17 July 2011, guests at our Ipswich family accommodation can enjoy a a number of fun hands-on activities at Build It!. The event will feature programs such as The BIG Build where you’ll get to join the Works Manager and help out his new apprentice fitter in the massive task of completing construction of a life-sized A10 locomotive. The Workshop will also showcase The Design Office where you can create you own cardboard take-home model of a locomotive, carriages and wagons.

Aside from building and helping out on the daily creative tasks, guests at our motel accommodation Ipswich can also take part in railway construction challenges by building trains and cranes, bridges and tunnels, railway stations and roundhouses using K’nex, Lego or Straws systems. Moreover, visitors can also enjoy a down time  activities such as guided tours around the Heritage Railway Workshops or perhaps see an array of historical images that depicts different products and trades made at the Ipswich Railway Workshops especially created by apprentices and tradesmen.
